The Department of Criminal Law carries out active international cooperation with foreign scientific, state and non-state institutions. Close scientific contacts were maintained with the Faculty of Law of the Opole University (Poland), the Higher School of Security (Warsaw, Poland), and scientists of the Jagiellonian University (Krakow, Poland).
Since 2008, the department has been implementing a grant project with the support of the Swiss Bureau for Development and Cooperation (Bern). The project envisages the development and experimental implementation of a three-level model of juvenile delinquency prevention in Ivano-Frankivsk based on a restorative approach to resolving criminal law conflicts. In order to ensure the implementation of the project the mayor’s order (June 27, 2008 ) on its support was issued in Ivano-Frankivsk. As a result, for the first time in Ukraine elements of a restorative approach to crime prevention policy were reflected in the Regional Targeted Crime Prevention Program for 2011-2015, which was approved by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Council on March 24, 2011.
Teachers of the department P. L. Fris, I. B. Medytskyi participated in international scientific and practical conferences abroad – in Poland, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Hungary, the Czech Republic.
Yu. I. Mykytyn, Associate Professor of Criminal Law, underwent an internship at the Polish Mediation Center (Warsaw, 2006) and at the Mediation Centers of the cities of Geneva and Zurich (Switzerland) within the framework of grant work in the field of restorative justice (June 2008); he became the winner of the ‘Open World’ program of the US Congress in the field of ‘Rule of Law; in October 2009 he completed an internship in the United States. Yu. I. Mykytyn coordinated the project in the field of restorative justice and mediation within the framework of scientific cooperation.

Within the framework of international cooperation, the department organizes speeches of famous scientists from foreign countries to teachers and students of the Law Institute. Thus, in September 2011 Jan Vidacki, a habilitated doctor and professor of criminal law at the Andrzej Frycz Modzewski Academy of Cracow, gave lectures for students of the Law Institute on the problems of modern assessment of crime and prospects for combating it. In October 2011 Christopher Hugh, Professor of Criminology (Zurich, Switzerland), gave lectures to students of the Institute of Law.
From November 8 to December 13, 2019, Associate Professor of Criminal Law Victoriia Shpiliarevych underwent an internship under the program ‘Internationalization of Higher Education. Organization of the educational process and innovative teaching methods in higher educational institutions of Poland’ on the basis of the Collegium Civitas University (Warsaw, Republic of Poland). During the internship there was an acquaintance with the activities and administration of the University ‘Collegium Civitas’, areas of training, organization of the educational process and methods of teaching.
